Matatū is synonymous
with Aoraki.

It speaks to the mana he holds as the enduring watchful
guardian of all who reside in Te Waka o Aoraki.

The name Matatū has been gifted to symbolise the Teams manawa (determined sacrifice), aho (legacy), hono (connections) and tira (unity) in representing Te Waka o Aoraki. The term Matatū can be heard echoing out at the end of the infamous haka “Tēnei te rūrū” as an instructive command to remain steadfast with head held high to take on any and every challenge head on.

Our Tohu
& Moko Kauae

The value of this tohu will be long lasting and standalone, entering the market championing Wāhine. It has been built with connections to the whenua (land), reikura (elite female athletes) and our Matatūtanga (values).

It is unique, fresh and contemporary, whilst reflective of our diverse yet connected communities.

Our Tohu reflects the mana of Aoraki as our central maunga, and depicts our collectiver purpose and our shared connections.  Its relationship to the values strategy echoes through our representatives, onto our communities and honours our whakapapa (genealogy) of Elite Women’s rugby, formed from the legacies of those who pathed our way.

The Tohu and Moko Kauae were designed by renowned cultural artist Morgan Mathews-Hale.
