Maia Joseph comes to Matatū after an initial season with the Chiefs Manawa in 2022 and has recently relocated to Christchurch to continue her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery studies.

In 2022, Joseph won the Fiao'o Faamausili Medal, awarded to the player who earned the most number of votes from commentators during the Farah Palmer Cup season.

Jospeh is also capable of playing first-five, wearing the 10 jersey for the Otago Spirit often last season.
