10 matatū players heading for home world cup

The Women’s Rugby World Cup is approaching at the Black Ferns have named their squad for the tournament. The world cup squad features ten Matatū players, the second most of any Super Rugby Aupiki team.

 Front rowers Natalie Delamere, Georgia Ponsonby, Pip Love and Amy Rule feature, with Love looking to add to her 19 Black Ferns caps when the tournament starts in October.

 Chelsea Bremner, sister Alana and Kendra Reynolds contribute to the contingent of locks and loose forwards, with the legendary halfback Kendra Cocksedge looking to finish her professional career on a high.

 Our final two Matatū representatives are the youthful duo of Amy Du Plessis in the midfield and Renee Holmes among the outside backs.

 Matatū GM Sarah Munro is beaming with pride at the selection of her players and is excited to see more top level women’s rugby on New Zealand soil,

 “We are very proud of our 10 Matatū wāhine that have been selected for the upcoming Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. Following the inaugural Super Rugby Aupiki at the beginning of this year, we have seen an incredible quality of rugby across the Black Ferns games as well as the FPC competition in an exciting year ahead for women in rugby.”

 The Black Ferns will face Australia (8 October), Wales (16 October) and Scotland (22 October) in Pool A of the Rugby World Cup.
