Hollyrae Mete joins 2025 Matatū squad
Hollyrae Mete will join the Matatū squad for the 2025 Super Rugby Aupiki season.
She played for Hurricanes Poua in 2024 and had a huge season with the Manawatu Cyclones in the Farah Palmer Cup this year, leading competition stats for Defenders Beaten, Clean Breaks, Metres Gained and Offloads.
“I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season and getting down to Christchurch and training with a new bunch of girls,” Hollyrae said.
The quality of coaching, team environment and her future aspirations were also considerations in the move south for the youngster.
“After talking to the coaches, I really liked what they had to say. I think they can really help to develop my game further.
“Getting out of my comfort zone and moving to Christchurch was a bonus as well.”
Whitney Hansen, Matatū Head Coach, said she and the coaching group were excited to support Hollyrae on her journey to “chase great”.
“She’s showcased throughout the FPC season not only is she a threat with ball in hand, she also has a strong distribution game, which will be important in how we look to play,” Hansen said.
“She’s hungry to continue to build on this and keep finding ways to chase great and we’re looking forward to having her down here to support her on that journey.”
