Matatū players set to take the field in Canada
Nine Matatū players have been named in the Black Ferns playing 23, five in the starting XV, set to play Canada in their second test of the Pacific Four Series.
Our girls take the field in Ottawa at 11.00am Sunday (NZ Time), a Saturday evening fixture for the locals.
Matatu loosehead prop Pip Love and loose forward Lucy Jenkins will be two of three new players to play Canada. Love combines with hooker Luka Connor (Chiefs Manawa) and fellow Matatū player Amy Rule in the front row, with hooker Georgia Ponsonby set to make an impact off the bench.
Alana Bremner continues her consistent form at No. 6 while Amy du Plessis brings speed and agility to the centre. Renee Holmes will control the field from fullback, likely to kick of a few conversions too.
Kendra Reynolds and Rosie Kelly will inject some strength and speed when needed off the bench. Kelly debuted last week in the Black Ferns dominant performance versus the Wallaroos.
Much has been said about potential debutant Lucy Jenkins who will pull on the No. 19 jersey if she takes the field.
“Lucy was a dominant player during Sky Super Rugby Aupiki,” said Black Ferns Head Coach Allan Bunting.
She is a very driven individual and has a well-rounded skill set. [She] has a bright future ahead of her and we are excited to see her play and enjoy this very special moment."
It’ll be the 17th time the Black Ferns have played Canada and the last time our girls played in Ottawa was nearly 20 years ago in July 2005. The Black Ferns won 32-5.
